American former Major League Baseball manager I’m Leyland. Jim Leyland began his baseball career in the 1960s as a Minor League player with the Detroit Tigers. He was born in Perrysburg, Ohio. He also served as the coach of the Montgomery Rebels.
After taking over as manager in 1985, he managed the Pittsburgh Pirates for the next ten years. In 1990 and 1992, he was named National League Manager of the Year while still on the squad. He became the Florida Marlins’ manager in 1997 and led the team to its first World Series victory.
He left the squad in 1998, following the trade or sale of nearly the whole roster to other teams. He spent one season as a player with the Colorado Rockies before taking a managerial position with the Detroit Tigers in 2006.
