Jon Scheyer’s Early Life

On August 24, 1987, Jon Scheyer was born in Northbrook, Illinois. Jim Scheyer and Laury Scheyer are his parents. His family was Jewish, and he fell in love with basketball at a young age. Scheyer was an exceptional basketball player at Glenbrook North High School.

As a junior, he led the Spartans to an Illinois High School Association Class AA state basketball championship. His club also achieved a historic victory with an all-Jewish starting lineup.

Jon Scheyer Professional Career

The 2010 NBA Draft saw Scheyer pass on the draft despite having a stellar collegiate career. In 2010, he participated in the Miami Heat Las Vegas Summer League, but he suffered a major eye injury during a game.

He overcame challenges to pursue a career as a professional player and went on to play for teams including Maccabi Tel Aviv, Gran Canaria, and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. After concluding his playing career, Scheyer joined the Duke men’s basketball coaching staff as a special assistant in 2013.

He advanced to the position of full-time assistant coach by 2014. Mike Krzyzewski took over as temporary head coach in 2021 after COVID-19 prevented him from leading Duke to a victory over Boston College. Duke announced Scheyer as Krzyzewski’s replacement in June 2021.
