The autopsy results on Lance Reddick are in. TMZ reported Thursday, April 6, that the de@th certificate for the “The Wire” star revealed that he suffered from ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease.
According to the American Heart Association, ischemia occurs when blood and oxygen supply to an area of the body are cut off or severely diminished.
Arteriosclerosis occurs when “blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body become thick and stiff,” sometimes restricting blood flow to the organs and tissues, according to the Mayo Clinic. The clots may trigger a heart attack or stroke.
On March 17, Reddick’s body was discovered at his Studio City, California, residence. At 60, he was an older man. Previously, TMZ reported that law enforcement sources said the actor died of “natural causes.”
When Reddick passed away, he was in the midst of a very productive and busy life. His latest film, “John Wick: Chapter 4”, had just opened in theaters on March 23, and he was currently on a press tour to promote it.
In one of Reddick’s last interviews, he referred to his co-stars Keanu Reeves and Ian McShane as “family.”
“You see, with the three of us, it’s not just the family that you’re born into, but the family that you created and how much we are family,” he said while sitting next to his castmates on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
