What’s New in Pokémon Go Annual Halloween Event? A Complete Guide

Pokémon GO, the popular augmented reality game that lets you catch and battle Pokémon in the real world, is celebrating Halloween with a series of events that will run throughout October. Here are some of the highlights of the Pokémon GO Halloween 2023:

Part One: Greavard and Houndstone Debut

From October 19 to October 26, you can encounter Greavard and Houndstone, the Ghost Dog Pokémon, for the first time in Pokémon GO. These Pokémon are based on the mythical Black Dog, a spectral creature that is said to bring bad luck or death to those who see it.

Greavard evolves into Houndstone, a fearsome-looking Pokémon with glowing red eyes and a fiery mane. You can also find shiny Phantump, a ghostly tree stump Pokémon, and its evolution Trevenant during this event.

Phantump has a green body and purple eyes in its shiny form, while Trevenant has a brown body and red eyes. Other ghost-type Pokémon will also appear more frequently in the wild, such as Gastly, Haunter, Misdreavus, Shuppet, Drifloon, Litwick, and Yamask.

You can also enjoy increased candy rewards for catching Pokémon with nice, great, and excellent throws, as well as hatching eggs. If you want to challenge yourself, you can purchase a Ticket of Treats for $5 or your local equivalent.

This ticket will unlock event-exclusive timed research every Thursday until October 31. You can complete the research tasks to earn encounters with ghost-type Pokémon, dark-type Pokémon, costume Pokémon, and more.

Part Two: Trick or Treat Costumes and Shiny Zorua

From October 26 to October 31, you can celebrate Halloween with some new costume Pokémon. Pikachu and Gengar will be wearing Trick or Treat costumes that resemble each other. Pikachu has a Gengar hat and tail, while Gengar has a Pikachu hat and tail.

You can find them in the wild or in raids. You can also encounter Vulpix, Piplup, and Pumpkaboo wearing spooky festival costumes. Vulpix has a witch hat and cape, Piplup has a pumpkin hat and scarf, and Pumpkaboo has a mask and bow.

These costume Pokémon will have a chance to give you extra candy or rare candy when you catch them. Another exciting feature of this event is the debut of shiny Zorua and its evolution Zoroark. Zorua is a dark-type Pokémon that can disguise itself as other Pokémon or humans.

Zoroark is its evolved form that can create illusions to trick its enemies. Zorua has blue fur and red eyes in its shiny form, while Zoroark has purple fur and green eyes.
