The Exorcist Believer Teaser: Ellen Burstyn Haunts Our Screens Again

The exact title of David Gordon Green’s planned relaunch of The Exorcist, a sequel to the original classic, was announced last night at CinemaCon. Though the first trailer for the film was only shown to CinemaCon attendees last night, THR has described the footage.

Ellen Burstyn, who played Chris MacNeil in the original The Exorcist in 1973, will return to her character in the new film.

The Exorcist:  “The Exorcist: Believer kicks off after the Devil takes over the bodies of two children. In the trailer, a father drops off his daughter at school. However, she and a friend go missing after school. When found in the woods, they seem changed and unaware that they have been gone three days, believing it’d been just a few hours.”

“At another point in the trailer, one of the girls — covered in communion wine — walks into a church mass, screaming at the priest: “The body and the blood!” Finally, the parents call upon Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn, who is reprising her role from the original film). She attempts to help the girls, one of whom has been carving her daughter’s name on her stomach.”

Don’t waste your time looking for this Believer trailer for The Exorcist on the internet since it does not exist. However, we anticipate that official advertising will appear online shortly. In the meanwhile, stay tuned.

The new Exorcist sequel, produced by Universal, Blumhouse, and Morgan Creek and directed by Gordon Green, is the first installment of a planned trilogy. The first installment of the trilogy, starring Leslie Odom Jr., will hit theaters on October 13, 2023.

The first plot details we were provided last year tease, “Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he tracks down Ms. Burstyn’s character.” Olivia Marcum (The Righteous Gemstones), Ann Dowd (Hereditary), Lidya Jewett (Netflix’s Nightbooks), Raphael Sbarge (“Gaslit”), and Jennifer Nettles also star.

The screenplay for Believer was written by Peter Sattler (Broken Diamonds) and Gordon Green, based on a tale by Green, Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), and Danny McBride (Halloween).

The TV show’s trailers from previous seasons are available for viewing.

Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist, a reimagining of 2004’s Exorcist: The Beginning, was the last film in the series to be released in theaters. Following The Exorcist (1977) and The Exorcist III (1990), these new films continued the series.

Fox recently aired a short-lived television series based on “The Exorcist” that was surprisingly good and skillfully set in the same universe as the original masterpiece.
