The head of ad sales at NBCUniversal, Linda Yaccarino, will take over as CEO of Twitter from its owner, Elon Musk. A person who knows the situation well told The Post that the two are in the middle of talks about the job.
Musk announced Thursday(11 May 2023) that the new CEO would begin in roughly six weeks. While he hasn’t named Yaccarino publicly, he will transition to an executive chair and chief technology officer.

Many advertisers deserted Twitter once Musk gained control, but the appointment of Yaccarino, a media sector veteran, could signify a change. Users have complained about disruptions and a general change in mood since Musk took over as CEO, and the company has had to lay off around 75 percent of its workforce.
Users have wasted little time in scouring Yaccarino’s past in an effort to anticipate whether she will restore Twitter’s pre-Musk culture, double down on the tech executive’s strategy, or convert it into something else entirely. This is what we have learned.
According to her description on the NBCUniversal website, Yaccarino is the chairman of global advertising and partnerships. She leads a staff of 2,000 employees responsible for more than $100 billion in ad sales. Her company has partnered with numerous media outlets, including Apple News, BuzzFeed, Snapchat, and Twitter.
Yaccarino is set to speak to big NBCUniversal clients on Monday at the company’s “upfront,” an event aimed to entice advertising. The timing of the news of her conversations with Musk might be unpleasant.
Some of Musk’s supporters have pointed to Yaccarino’s involvement with the World Economic Forum, a group of political power brokers and global business elites that Musk has attacked, as evidence that she will bring Twitter back to its old ways or curb Musk’s free-speech activities.
According to her LinkedIn page, she is the head of the Taskforce on the Future of Work at the World Economic Meeting (WEF). This organization supports globalization and holds the annual Davos meeting.
Musk tweeted in response to some of these criticisms that the platform’s “commitment to open source transparency and accepting a wide range of viewpoints remains unchanged.”

Yaccarino was appointed to President Trump’s Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition in 2018 and will serve a two-year term. Furthermore, in 2021, while chair of the Ad Council, Yaccarino collaborated with the Biden White House to develop a coronavirus vaccine advertisement that prominently featured Pope Francis.

Both Musk and Yaccarino have worked together in the past. In a “Twitter 2.0: From Conversations to Partnerships” session, the two were billed as having an “intimate conversation” about Twitter’s place in popular culture and its potential in the marketing world.
The event took place last month in Miami Beach. In a tweet to Musk last week, Yaccarino hinted at NBCUniversal’s increased cooperation with Twitter for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Yaccarino, a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, told Salesforce that her “love affair” with media began during her internship at NBCUniversal’s media planning department. She worked in advertising, marketing, and acquisitions for nearly two decades at Turner before returning to NBC.
