On Twitter Modi said: “I express my sorrow and condolences on the violence that took place in West Bengal’s Birbhum. I hope that the state government will ensure that the perpetrators of this crime in the great land of Bengal are punished.”
Another tweet said: “I would also urge the people of Bengal to never forgive those who commit such incidents, and those who help such criminals.” The PM further said: “On behalf of the central government, I would like to assure the state that whatever help is sought to bring the perpetrators to justice will be provided.”
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked Bengal DGP Manoj Malaviya to intervene and take strict action in the Birbhum violence case. The NCW asked the DGP to inform it within 24 hours about the action taken. National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has sought a report from Birbhum SP Nagendra Tripathi following reports that children have died in the carnage.
