Journal App

Translate Action
The Translate action, which lets you use the Shortcuts app to translate text from any app, is another new feature in iOS 17.2. To translate text from the clipboard, a selected text, or a spoken phrase, you can construct a shortcut that uses the Translate action. You can then speak the translated phrase aloud, copy it to the clipboard, or display it in a notice.
Additionally, you can select the source and target languages or let the Translate function identify the language on its own. The Translate action supports the same languages as the Translate app and operates offline.
SharePlay Improvements
SharePlay, a function that allows you to watch or listen to content with pals over FaceTime, has also seen some enhancements with iOS 17.2. In iOS 17, SharePlay was included, but at first, it was not enabled because of various technical problems.
Reactivating SharePlay in iOS 17.2 brings some new features, including the option to join a SharePlay session via a link and share your screen with FaceTime participants. Additional apps that support SharePlay include Disney+, ESPN+, HBO Max, Hulu, Paramount+, and Twitch.

Music App Enhancements
iOS 17.2 also brings several improvements to the Music app, including the option to share playlists with friends and allow them to contribute music to the playlist. Additionally, you may view the songs and the person who added them to the shared playlist with your friends.
A new feature in the Music app is Replay Mix, which builds a custom playlist of the songs you’ve listened to the most each year. Your Replay Mix statistics are also displayed, including the number of hours you listened to music annually and the number of songs and artists you found.
Other Features and Changes
iOS 17.2 also includes some other features and changes, such as:
- A new Messages app icon that matches the macOS Monterey icon.
- A new Low Power Mode widget that lets you quickly toggle the feature on or off from the Home Screen or the Today View.
- A new option to disable the Auto-Join feature for specific Wi-Fi networks, which prevents your iPhone from automatically connecting to those networks.
- A new option to enable or disable the Announce Notifications feature for specific apps, which lets Siri read out your notifications when you are wearing headphones or using CarPlay.
- A new option to choose the default browser and email app for each of your contacts, which overrides the system-wide default apps.
- A new option to hide the Safari tab bar when scrolling, gives you more screen space for browsing.
iOS 17.2 is still in beta, and it may have some bugs and issues. If you want to try it out, you can enrol in Apple’s Beta Software Program, but we recommend doing so on a secondary device. Alternatively, you can wait for the final version of iOS 17.2, which should be available in December.
