Who Was Actress Jayne Mansfield?
In the 1950s, Jayne Mansfield became famous by playing Marilyn Monroe’s cartoonishly sexy opposite. Mansfield was only 21 years old when she moved to Hollywood after being born Vera Jayne Palmer on April 19, 1933.
Too Hot to Handle (1960) and The Girl Can’t Help It (1956) both featured Mansfield in lead roles. The actress’s off-screen persona, in which she portrayed herself as a quirkier version of Marilyn Monroe, was, however, the reason she became famous.
Lawrence J. Quirk, a Hollywood reporter, once questioned Monroe about Jayne Mansfield. Monroe complained, “All she does is imitate me, but her attempts were an insult to her as well as myself.”
In addition, Monroe stated, “I know it’s supposed to be flattering to be imitated, but she does it so grossly, so vulgarly – I wish I had some legal means to sue her.”
An actor and bodybuilder named Mickey Hargitay became Mansfield’s husband in 1958. The couple had three kids, one of whom was Mariska Hargitay, and they were in a few movies together. Mansfield had three marriages, three divorces, and five children. Also, she was involved in several public affairs.
In 1962, when Mansfield heard about Marilyn Monroe’s untimely death, the typically bold actress thought, “Maybe I’ll be next.”

Mansfield apparently died a horrible death that was surprisingly quick. In their post-crash report, police wrote, “the upper portion of this white female’s head was severed.”
According to her death certificate, Mansfield had a crushed skull and a partial separation of her cranium, which is more similar to a scalping than a complete decapitation. However, the beheading story persists, even making its way into the film Crash from 1996.
Following the rumour that Mansfield had been beheaded, another rumour circulated. People who like to talk about other people said that the starlet was killed by a curse Anton LaVey put on her boyfriend Brody. The starlet had been in a relationship with Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan. Of course, this rumour hasn’t been proven true. But it is still remembered, partly because of a 2017 documentary called Mansfield 66/67.
